Chester saves half-a-million refinancing debt

CHESTER — City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance that will allow the city to refinance some prior debt Wednesday.

The ordinance, which passed, 4-0, was sponsored by Councilman Shepard A. Garner, director of accounts and finance. The bill will need to pass a second reading before going into effect.

“I think it’s a huge step in strengthening our finance department,” Garner said after the meeting. “We’re trying to take every step possible that we’re fiscally responsible.”
