Chester's Field of Dreams

Build it and they’ll come. The only problem here is that they just won’t finish building it.
The summer is half over and the construction on the 7th & Franklin Street courts has halted again.
I think they proposed basketball courts with lights and a hard court soccer area among other things.
All we’re left with is black top and hay. It’s almost looking like a parking lot again.
Anyone know what’s going on here? Anyone care?

  1. what was wrong with the old courts??? they could have just cleaned up the mountains of dirt and glass instead of rebuilding it...

  2. I thought they tore them down for good as long as they've been down. It seemed like punishment for the string of violence over the last couple years.

  3. Nope. They, whoever They are, have planned a state of the art outdoor sports complex here.

The old courts were very bad to play on. The surface was the old parking lot blacktop which is not suited for basketball. Most of the baskets and supports became worthless after a few years. Two courts were kept halfway decent and the past few summers the city had a youth summer basketball league.

Sorry, no outdoor league and no courts this year on 7th street.

But, if they ever finish, I will lace up and run a game or two.
