District Attorney Recognizes College Bound Chester High Students

Media- On Tuesday, May 31, 2011, District Attorney G. Michael Green will present several high school students from the City of Chester with certificates to recognize their participation in a summer college program at local colleges and universities during the summer of 2010.  The ceremony will take place at Chester High School from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Chester High School is located at 232 West 9th Street, Chester, PA 19013.  The young people will be recognized in front of their fellow students, family and teachers.  Mayor Wendell Butler and other City of Chester elected official will be on hand to support our young people.
In the spring of 2010, District Attorney G. Michael Green wanted to encourage young people in the City of Chester to further their educational experience beyond high school.  District Attorney Green recognizes that the education of our young people is vitally important to the continued growth of the City of Chester and the County.  To this end, District Attorney Green reached out to local colleges and universities in Delaware County seeking their willingness to include a student from the City of Chester in their existing summer programs.  Villanova University, Widener University, Delaware County Community College, and Neumann University responded to this need.   To develop and administer this summer program, District Attorney Green sought the assistance of the Chester Youth Collaborative (http://www.cyc.crozer.org), an organization known for its positive work with young people in the City of Chester.  DA Green has so admired the Collaborative's work he has supported the annual Chester Youth Summit for the past five years. Janet Riley Ford, the Collaborative's Director, agreed to develop and administer the summer program.
DA Green is proud to announce that nine students participated in and successfully completed the summer program in 2010.  DA Green will recognize these students with certificates, and he will also announce the program participants for summer 2011. DA Green will also present awards to the local colleges and universities- Neumann University, Widener University, Villanova University and Delaware County Community College- who participated.
Please join District Attorney Green and the Chester Youth Collaborative in recognizing and encouraging our young people!
