The latest incident — the fourth in 72 hours — occurred in the 200 block of Patterson Street, shortly after 7 p.m.

There seem to be a lot of blame to spread around regarding the problems of one of the oldest cities in the nation and some of the blame obviously can be assigned to those who read this city blog and those that don't. Once the term black is assigned to the problems of a community logical discussion and reasonable attempts to find a solution flies out the window.
ReplyDeleteThe problems that this community faces are very complex and developed over an extended period of time. Therefore any projected solutions to these problems will also take time to make a significant impact.
I would like the City of Chester to solicit more funds for hiring adittional police officers so they can effectively police the streets and/or atleast be a visible force. Also seek real money to hire more teachers and hold them to the standards imposed by other states such as Delaware. If your mayor or state representative is not effective in that area then the community needs new leadership. I'am very suprised that the city struck an arrangment with Harrahs for only one percent of It's gross income per year. Money and effective leadership is key for any change.
Once again, if politicians and community leaders wanted to address the issue of violence they would because they can. The church is invisible because monthly meetings among religious leaders produce little to no resolve. This city is underseige, a modern day Sodom & Gommorah with crime on the rise. You cannot preach to the people on Sunday and hide the rest of the week from the community you live in or worship in. The only hope for the City of Chester is that Pastors and congregations unite and march on Chester to demand resolve. Unless there is a united front that draws regional and national attention to the crime that exists those politicians in Media, Harrisburg and the Pellegi's of the city will do absolutely nothing. After all, what is another dead N.....to them!
ReplyDeleteEveryone wants to put a bandage on a cut.If you recall 5-10 years ago when we brought Edison in to dismantle our school system,no one said a word. Did you see Rose valley,Southeast Delco,Ridley or Strath Haven ,GarnetValley bringing in Edison and Charter Schools. A charter school is a public school not a private school. Under the guise of choice our children were hoddwinked to believe this was a better education. They divided our children so you do not grow with your classmates and gain comradrie and citizenship, pride and a belief that we all are special not better because of our different schools. Who knows best than our own community what our children needs are. Having said all that, my point is that education is the key to decency, success, possibility and growth. If we are denied a quality education and consistency where everyone counts, it is not possible to offer hope to the hopeless. Give me a fish...i eat for a day...teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime. We bring in a soccer stadium and a casino, where is the Library and community center. We need a focal point that is a center of influence and current technology works hand in hand. We can't wish it away. It is pretty obvious that we have a crisis. It doesn't matter what political party you are in..the loss of a young man affects us all the same way..it is tragic. We all remember when a fist fight settled things. We have to make the young men understand that trading in your life for a behind the bars experience isn't over after 2 hours like the CSi show,it is a lifetime of hell and a loss of opportunity and promise. My ammunition starts and ends with the books. It will take you places you have never been, physically and in your imagination and blow your mind. You will never own a corner,or be the sole drug dealer,or gangster . God did not design the world for destruction and corruption whether you are Christian, Muslim,Hindu,Catholic or Atheist. Unrighteous will never win over Righteous just like light is always better than darkness. Life must have priorities and a purpose. Find one and share it with the world, you will feel 100. That's my 2 cents for what it is worth. Peace be upon you! ~Dennis M Jackson Sr. I approve this message...

ReplyDeleteI moved back to the city of Chester twenty five years ago after the Blue Route was completed. I was hoping that it would attract more businesses to the city thus providing a better quality of life for the residents of the city and making the city a more attractive place to raise a family. The Blue Route by itself certainly did not live up to my projection.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I noticed about the city that I also observed in other cities that I have lived in such as Miami, Detroit, Phil., etc, is the adult male strong desire to identify with and emulate much younger males to the degree that they limit and stifle their own adult experiences and allow the younger males [including teenagers] to dictate the direction that the community will take. We are in a closed environment which takes on the ugly face of defacto segregation. This kind of seperation limits the life experiences of residents of the community enough by itself. WE should not be brainwashed to believe the son should lead the father or children should lead the community. They even more than their parents, given their environment, have no idea what their choices are in life. Brainwashing occurs from both external and internal influences.
The summer months are upon us and the children have litterally taken over the streets. The adult male is invisible. Has he imposed a twenty four hour curfew on himself or is he using the misguided acts of the children as a decoy for his own nefarious activities.
