Chester Charter School Recognizes Concerned Parents through Appreciation Program

Overall, more than 250 CCCS parents attended the celebration, which acknowledges their partnership with the school, its teachers and its administrators, and their efforts in supporting a successful and productive learning culture.
Chester, PA, June 2, 2010 – Chester Community Charter School (CCCS), the largest charter school in Pennsylvania, recently recognized, through its Parent Appreciation Program, the parents and guardians of its students, who actively partner with the school to support and contribute to a successful and productive learning culture for their children.

The Parent Appreciation Program began in 2004 as an initiative to honor and recognize CCCS parents who were actively engaged in their child’s academic success. The program utilizes the “Parent Report Card” process, in which parents are graded by the teaching staff, each semester, based on the following categories:

• Attendance and involvement at individual parent/teacher conferences
• Attendance and involvement at the school’s Parent/Teacher Association’s (PTA) scheduled meetings
• Attendance and involvement at scheduled school events
• Student completion of homework assignments
• Student punctuality and attendance
• Student adherence to dress code, and
• Student behavior 

Parents who receive the highest marks are invited each year to the “Parent’s Appreciation Dinner,” where they are treated to a catered dinner in their honor and have a chance to win prizes, which typically include gift cards to Chester area businesses and retail outlets, bicycles, high-definition televisions, DVD players, iPods, passes to the Philadelphia Phillies’ Phantasy Camp and the grand prize, a trip to Walt Disney World, in Orlando, Florida.

In speaking about the program, Steven E. Lee, chief executive officer, Chester Community Charter School, said “This is a one-of-a-kind program that shows the importance of establishing a working relationship between the parents and the school. We understand that our students cannot succeed without parental support, and we make it our responsibility to include our parents in school happenings and day-to-day operations.
