Here’s another Linder-ism that caught my eye. I was wondering what you thought about his quote printed in today’s Daily Times.
Which do you think is more difficult to control, crime or test scores?
I think crime is easier to control than education.
First, Mayor Linder has no control of education money. That’s Harrisburg’s job. Next, city government has no direct jurisdiction of the school district.
However, the city is in total control of fighting crime. They should be pretty good at this by now.
We have a new police commissioner, help from Washington’s SC2, and hopefully Act 47 will end soon and we can hire more cops.
Talking education sounds nice, but let’s hope Linder & Co’s first priority is fighting crime. They have complete and total jurisdiction over that.
I think he suffers from the same issues that VP Bidden has, Foot in Mouth Syndrome and SBTD (Speak Before Thinking Disorder).
ReplyDeleteI agree totally and to add to your comment, reducing crime and murder rates were one of his major campaign points. He shouldn't have said that in the paper yesterday. He'll learn, hopefully because it sends the wrong message to residents when it is read. "Crime is too hard to stop so were gonna focus on education", such bull. Albeit, it will take more than his gov't to stop /slow crime, it will have to be a city movement. PEOPLE TOGETHER ARE STRONGER THAN ANY GOV'T all the time.
ReplyDelete^^^ I was saying I agree with the post not @blkbam, just to be clear.
ReplyDeleteHow quickly we forget, Since Mayor Linder has been in office more officer have been on the street. A grant is currently being applied for to add additional officers. Nusiance businesses are closing earlier. Two people charged in murderers in one day. it is amazing how he has done more in less time!!! SMH
ReplyDeleteIt's not a matter of forgetting. It's a matter of blowing your own horn and repeatedly letting people know the good things that are happening.
DeleteSend me the information on the grant and the number of new police. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know about it.
The city would like to gain control over the school board, so directly affecting education may be a possibilty. You can fight crime by hiring more officers, deploying them differently, and installing the cameras that they mentioned...and thats still just a Band Aid. The political logistics are one issue, but education is easier to control than murder rates.
ReplyDeleteI find the 1st annonymous' comment particularly interesting because it disagreed with the mayor and proved why education needs to be the focus
Great point.
DeleteWhichever one is more easly to control, one of them needs to improve, now.
Based on what we're working with, they both seem too difficult to fix.
