Former Chester Resident Publishes Poetry Collections

pastedGraphic.pdf
Takoma Park, MD – Was the sign What Chester Makes Makes Chester simply an outrageous gimmick? In Soul of Isabella, one of her newly released poetry collections, former Chester resident Mary Carter-Williams, whose pen name is Isabella, poses that growing up in Chester during the forties and fifties was richly rewarding.
The poems “Surrogate Mom,” “Footprints,” and “May Day” pay tribute to the highly competitive pre-college experience she received at Watts, Frederick Douglass Jr., and Chester High schools. “Churches” and “The Fisherman,” highlight the easy relationships that existed between street, storefront, and mainline churches; whereas “West Mary Street” memorializes the solid community life that this special street afforded children and families.
However, Soul of Isabella reaches beyond Chester to broad philosophical questions that touch our lives daily – including the keys to success, the incredulities of geopolitical strife, and the relevance of ancient cultures. On Being Prayerful, Long and Short Poems that Heal, compliments Soul of Isabella, in that it explicates the spirituality undergirding the author’s successes.
Isabella’s collections invite readers to revisit their own lives as they journey with her through growing up, spiritual deserts, and building strong family and extra familial relationships.
