Personally, I've always wanted to see public trash cans around the city. People are more likely to use them rather than the street if they are available.
Widely available public trash cans would mean jobs due to the regular maintenance/pick up and also would give people a sense of duty to use them.
Small steps like this are what help uplift a community. Now that the topic has been brought up, I might have to start a public initiative to get it done. No need to wait on the city to get ti done.
Actually it doesn't. It uses the article "a" rather than "the" which implies I should use any trash can not that there is one near the sign.
I'd feel better knowing that a trash can was over flowing rather than it not being used at all or not existing at all.
If they're overflowing, they just need to be emptied more often. Somehow I don't think if cans went in tonight there would be an overflow problem. But if people saw cans, they would think before using the ground.
If we had trash cans around the city would it produce jobs for teens that don't want to get mixed up with selling drugs. I would prefer to see signs that say fight with your fist not shoot the guns to kill or where are your parents at? Not do you know where your children are?
I would be happy to support the initiative that @blkbam mentioned. I'm still dealing with wrappers and bottles on the curb, sidewalk and blowing onto the lawn. I would like to think that most of the trash would make it to a receptacle if there was one available. How can I help?

That sign does imply that there is a trash can available. And overflowing trash cans are as much a problem as having no trash can at all.
