Three Internships

Posted: 21 Mar 2014 07:29 AM PDT

Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Programs (SEAP) give students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to work with a Department of Navy laboratory on research projects and also receive a stipend. Participating labs are located in many states throughout the U.S.

Internships last eight weeks during the summer at one of 20 Department of Navy labs. Over 200 students each year are chosen to participate in the internships. Eligible students must be at least 16 years old and have completed grade 9. Students must have an interest in science and engineering research.

Interns will work with scientists and engineers who will guide them throughout the internship. The purpose of the internship program is to encourage students to pursue careers in science and engineering and provide them with an enriched experience outside the school classroom.

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) is offered by the American Society for Engineering Education located in Washington, D.C. The non-profit organization was founded in 1893 and is dedicated to furthering education in engineering and engineering technology.

National Security Agency Internships are available to high school seniors with an interest in a career within a government security agency. Two internship programs are available.

The Gifted and Talented Program STEM for High School is open to high school seniors with high aptitude in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students applying for this program must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above, and a minimum of 1600 on the SAT or 25 on the ACT. They must be pursuing a computer science or engineering course.

The High School Work Study Program is for high school students enrolled in a Business or Technical Computer program. This program is for students interested in participating in a school-sponsored work experience program during their senior year. Eligible students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above and an interest and skills in business computing and office technology.

Both internships are paid work opportunities that will give high school seniors on-the-job training and work experience. Students applying must be at least 16 years old. The internships are offered by the National Security Agency (NSA), a U.S. government defense agency responsible for collecting and disseminating intelligence information that will serve to protect our country from terrorists and other security threats.

Schlumberger Internships offer college students practical work experience in the areas of business, information technology, engineering and human resources. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply.

Some internships will require students to be working on an advanced degree, such as business consulting positions. Other internships, including human resources and other office-based positions, require students to have completed their second year of undergraduate work in geology, geophysics, computer science, telecommunications, or engineering.

Internships can be anywhere from ten weeks to six months. Interns gain much experience in their field of study by working closely with top professionals in the energy consulting industry. Internship positions are offered throughout the year at multiple locations.

Schlumberger Limited is the world's largest oilfield services company headquartered in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1926, the company designs technologies that help customers find and produce oil and gas more efficiently and safely.
