Chester High boys basketball (12-3) defeat Penn Wood

The Clippers keep alive their goal of maintaining the Del Val Championship with a 59-54 win over the league leading Penn Wood Patriots at the Clip Joint. With the win the teams have split the season series and are now co-leaders in the league. Chester record now stand at 12-3 overall and 4-1 in League action.

The Clippers led from the opening basket and while the Patriots stayed close they were never able to gain the lead or control of the game. Sophomore Khaleeq Campbell led the way in the opening period scoring all seven of his points as Chester led 14-7.

Tyrell Sturdivant kept the Patriots at bay with 5 of his 7 points in the 2nd quarter and Chester held  a 27-22 lead at intermissions.

Gabe Adesina the other half of the Clippers version of the 'Twin Towers' made his presence felt in the 3rd quarter scoring 7 of his 9 points as the Patriots cut the Clippers lead to 2 points 42-40 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The senior back-court of Conrad Chambers and Mahir Johnson came up big in the final quarter with Chambers scoring 5 of his 11 points and Johnson dropping 9 of his game high 19 points. Coming out of a Penn Wood timeout with 48 second left in the contest and Chester holding a 56-54 lead, Mahir connected on his only two foul shots to give the Clippers a four point cushion. Khaleeq dropped 1 of 2 for the final Clippers points. With the 'Towers' in foul trouble, 6'8" junior Maurice Henry played crucial minutes and finished with 2 points, 1 blocked shot and 5 rebounds. Junior Keyonte Watkins added his name to the scoring column with four points.

Chester will enjoy the confines of the Clip Joint on Thursday, January 30th with the Battlin' Bulls of Glen Mills visit for another Del Val League contest.
