Summer Chester Biddy Basketball

While cruising down 7th Street, I noticed the kids playing basketball and stopped to watch for a few minutes. Two courts of 11-13 year olds were battling it out with a lot of supporters looking on.

Chester Biddy head, Ralph Dorsey, spotted me and handed me the summer schedule. I promised to come to a future game with the camera and give the kids some coverage (thank God for cell phone cameras when you're in a pinch).

As we talked, he dropped some information that blew my mind.

All the team shirts and game balls were generously provided by a former Chester player - and he doesn’t play in the NBA if that’s your first guess.

No, it is the head coach of the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team, Bo Ryan.

Dorsey said he wrote Coach Ryan a letter and no sooner than he received it, the decision was made. Coach Ryan may even make an appearance in August. I’ll keep you posted.

Now that’s what giving back is all about.

Each team shirt flaunts the new logo on the front with their team name on the back

These guys lost their first game but promised to make up for it next time

Ralph Dorsey is constantly taking care of business as over 200 players from the tri-state area compete this summer

    1. I knew that. But, I sure didn't write that. It took a while for someone to catch the error. Thanks.
