My Favorite Paper-men

Elijah X Whitaker 29 and his younger brother Leroy X Whitaker 16

The most underrated weekly independent newspaper in America is ‘The Final Call’.

As a youngster, it was the ‘Muhammad Speaks’ paper that first introduced me to the global issues affecting people of color. Now named ‘The Final Call’, this paper continues to improve with the addition of some of the best journalists covering the stories rarely seen in the mainstream press.

Since it’s not sold on news stands, it’s not always the easiest paper to find each week, but about 6 months ago I ran into young Brother Leroy with a bundle under his arm walking past my home. I asked him if he’d drop one off each week, gave him the money in advance, and he has delivered like a pro.

Besides the news, Minister Farrakhan has committed to writing a 52-part series on “The Time and What Must Be Done”. I find the series to be extremely motivating, inspirational, and educational. Part 24 is in this week’s paper.

This week’s issue also has a wonderful editorial honoring Nelson Mandela. It’s a great read.

For those of you looking for an alternative to the daily rape, crime, murder, and destruction featured in the daily papers, give The Final Call a try. It truly is ‘all the news that’s fit to print’, especially for Black Americans.

Really? Wake up to what? Slaves to whom?

I love the one line comments that are written in poor English that rarely seem to make any logical sense.

Please elaborate on why I am a slave since I don't read this paper. I have seen it before and glanced through it, and can sum up my opinion and just say it's what I expect from Minister Farrakhan.

If anyone needs to wake up, it is the illiterate, uneducated, vitriolic people that continue to bring this city down. The writings of many who come on here and post is a testament to the poor job the CUSD is doing, and the fact that a majority of those who have something bad to say are not capable of forming simple sentences properly reinforces my belief.

Keep it real, my friend. We all know who the real slaves are.

    2. Nice comment,

There's no excuse for the lack of comments and the girth of bad comments on this blog. After spending time with top bloggers, they all love the site and can't understand why participation is so low in numbers and quality.

  4. Kudos Brother Seth!! I look forward to my weekly paper and I enjoy reading every single article. Way much better reading then the Daily Times. The Final Call contain articles that I can relate to as a Woman of Color.

  5. I've always bypassed this paper because I thought it only had to do with Islamic teachings, which I'm not interested in, but this article has piqued my interest. I'll be purchasing one the next time I see them out. By the way, how much do they cost?

    1. It's the best paper in American bringing national and international news on issues important to blacks. They use their own reporters. The articles are in depth. The Islamic content is in the back of the paper and can easily be ignored. $2
