Chester Seeking Tennis Instructor

Job Category:           Part-time, non-exempt
Summary:
Legacy Youth Tennis and Education (formerly Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education), a long-standing nonprofit organization in the region, is in search of experienced, fun and energetic part-time Tennis Instructors for our afterschool programs in Chester, PA. Tennis Instructors must bring a high level of competency and motivation to work in a recreational tennis environment. More importantly, candidates must share a passion for young people.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Support Head Coach in the delivery of all elements of the program including tennis instruction and education curriculum
  • Develop appropriate and supportive relationships with all participants
  • Actively, productively and continuously involve all participants in the program
  • Promptly resolve all disciplinary issues
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve the program, and incorporate feedback from your Supervisor
  • Maintain a safe atmosphere and constant supervision of participants at all times
  • Complete program administrative duties and maintain equipment
  • Participate in evaluations of programs and participants as needed
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Some college preferred
  • 2+ years of tennis coaching experience or competitive tennis play required
  • Certification with PTR or USPTA preferred
  • Ability to teach the fundamentals of tennis
  • Experience working with youth in a recreational setting preferred
  • Ability to manage groups efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to be a positive role model to participants
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Proven ability to solve problems, work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated reliability, maturity and responsibility
  • Willingness to follow directions and learn
  • Comfort and experience in working in diverse communities
  • Impeccable integrity
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car strongly preferred
Hours and Compensation:
Program runs 4/1/13-6/21/13. Positions available for one to four afternoons per week (2-8 hours), depending on candidate’s availability. Compensation ranges from $10.00/hour to $15.00/hour depending on candidate’s experience. Some positions may roll into summer positions.

  2. Why wouldn't I report to the deputy director of recreation? This is recreation from the city correct? Is Dwayne not qualified enough to supervise this program?

    1. Yes I am qualified i see you dont use spell check. I have played tennis for 15 years, born and raised in the city and I played in college. My career will not allow me to take on this part time job. Dont know Wanda Manns qualifications but I I know Dwayne and Darrell Jones are a JOKE as recreation supervisors. I will report to the education director.
