Heroin Fight not in Chester Schools

I couldn't help but notice that the District Attorney is taking the Heroin Fight to county schools.
“We’ve given it priority,” Whelan said of the program. “We are anxious to get it started. The statistics aren’t getting any better.”
Will the program make it to the Chester schools? Probably not since heroin isn’t a Chester problem. But when crack was a Chester problem, I don’t remember the county creating a Cocaine Fight for the Chester schools.
“This drug is especially brutal on the parents and other family members who have to watch a loved one die a slow death,” Whelan said.
I guess it just depends on the community dying the slow death, huh?

  1. The black community has suffered since the 80 s with crack it started in LA, and was introduced by a gang known as the crips. It destroyed black communitis. Heron is doing the same to white communities. Hate to separate the two by race, but both drugs are devastating. School, sports, and church is what are kids need on a daily basis. Help the police call 911 we have to stand up...

  3. Thank God it has not made it to our schools, however that doesn't mean it's not in Chester. Believe me it's here and it's been here. Everyone needs to be educated about this drug.

    1. I'm sure it is. Rumor has it, heroin took down one of our beloved institutions, Stakey's Hoagie Shop.

However, heroin is far from the drug of choice for our city kids, thank God indeed. And, I doubt if any of the heroin kingpins operate out of Chester.

I could be wrong, but that's what I sense.

  4. Without specifics, there are.
The drugs that plague the city are not just weed and coke. Perscription drugs, herion pcp are all here too. Please dont forget about alcohol. Education at home and in school is the key. As many people may say, weed is not a drug but some people who started with weed ended up in herion.

  6. There are plenty of places to buy it in the city. As for kingpins ? Thats a matter of opinion.
Weed and coke may be the front runners in use in our city but heroin, pcp and perscription drugs are on the upswing. Oh,and lets no forget alcohol abuse.
Many have started with weed snd ended up with herion.
Education in the HOME is where it needs to start , then reinforced in our schools.
The first message should include WEED is a drug! And its not harmless.

  7. So the DA is taking on a countywide problem and attempting to find better ways to deal with it, and all you can do is say some racist crap like this? Oh it all depends on the community dying a slow death? Just how much money in government assistance has been dumped into Chester over the years? What has it improved?

A lot of Chester Problems would be scaled way back if FATHERS were a part of FAMILIES and folks got MARRIED before they had kids and at least had decent sources of INCOME before they decided to have some babies. Figuring out government assistance into your pre-baby budget is irresponsible. If you can't afford to make ends meet without kids, what makes you think it's responsible to have kids then? Kids don't go to school, hang on the corners, teen pregnancy and STD's are still skyrocketing, dropout rates are high, test scores are low, parents don't get involved (just look at CUSD meeting attendance) and the streets are raising the kids. The school district is failing the kids the same way the parents are failing the kids.

A lot of kids grow up in broken homes, live on the streets, get into crime, sell drugs, use drugs, get girls pregnant and walk away, and the cycle continues. Poverty is normal and food stamps and WIC and welfare and so many other programs are used as primary income, and when people do get a job, they spend money on bullshit like expensive cellphones, flat screen tv's, video games, expensive clothes, fancy wheels on cars, drugs, and everything else that they wouldn't be able to afford if they didn't have all that free money, and THAT CYCLE continues too. How is it right that someone buys their groceries on food stamps and WIC and whatever else, and then load them up into an Escalade? Or talk on an iPhone they just pulled out of their Coach purse? I see it at Sam and Sams, Walmart, Giant, Pathmark, and even at the little corner stores.

People can afford 300 dollar basketball sneakers but they feed their kids ramen noodles and hot dogs for dinner. And then I read this little story from you about how the county never created a task force for Chester Schools when Crack was a problem... Why the hell didn't CHESTER do anything about it? Why does everyone think that CHESTER problems should be EVERYONES problems?

When there are problems on a COUNTYWIDE level, then I would expect the county to try and do something about it. However, when CITY problems are mainly affecting the city, the CITY should attempt to deal with those problems first, and then maybe ASK for help when they need it.

The DA is trying to put a dent in an epidemic that is tearing apart families across the county, and I applaud him for it. Instead of making some snide comment about how it won't help Chester and that nobody cared about drug problems in Chester, maybe you can try and help some kids here in the city and join some groups here trying to make a difference.

I'm sorry about my rant, but it's the same thing all the time... People who don't care are not going to change their habits. These "epidemics" in Chester continue to be epidemics in Chester because until you change the mindset, until you make it hard to live the easy life, until you change peoples values and morals, throwing money at programs that nobody cares about will not help. You have to WANT to change.

    1. Well Stated !! I was born and raised in Chester.Chester has turned into a SHITHOLE because the People of Chester let it be that way. Nobody gives a dam and a lot of People went something for nothing. It all starts at home with the Parents. So until y'all stop treating your kids as ur best friend then it will always be the same.I was back in Chester a few years ago in Sun Village.I picked up the trash from in front of the house ten times in five hours. Sun Village use to nice and now it's a straight SHITHOLE! Until WE start caring and giving a dam. It's gonna be the same CRAP! Wake up People and want more for Yourself and ur Family!!!!

By no means is this directed at anyone on any government assistance that needs it because of financial hardships that were unforseen. However, if you think that taking any free money you can get your hands on while continuing to do nothing to try and improve your situation is ok, and continue to make your situation worse and attempting to find more ways to get more money is the most you do at any real work, then this IS for you. If you have an iPhone, designer clothes, gold jewelry, expensive car, flat screen tv's, video games, drink expensive booze, or any other bling, meanwhile get free housing, heat, food, whatever, you should be ashamed of yourself, and if you have kids living in poverty on top of that, you really should be ashamed of yourself. Theres no excuse to have all that while your kids eat garbage and sleep on a mattress on the floor with roaches crawling around on them. They will end up just as helpless, irresponsible, and pathetic as you.

    1. Pathetic me gave you the opportunity to share your opinion. Hopefully someone will benefit from it.

Chester's crack epidemic was a county wide problem as folks from all over came into Chester to make their purchases and drive safely back to their communities while the Chester dealers were getting arrested.

The number of people on public assistance are far greater in the county than in the city of Chester. Unfortunately, there is a great concentration of public assistance in our little town.

If Chester's poor integrated into the communities with the county's poor, would there be a higher standard of living?

    2. I wasn't calling you pathetic... I'm calling those who live like that pathetic.

Sure, the county has plenty of people on public assistance. If they live like I described above, then my rant is aimed at them, too.

There will only be a higher standard of living when we hold those responsible accountable. When such a high concentration live in one area, it's tough because the responsible are outnumbered.

    3. Gotcha.

Oh well. I try stir things up with topics like this but so few folks join the conversation. What's a blogger to do? Sometimes I wonder what's the point of trying.
