Chester High School football home games have been played on Saturday mornings at 10:30am for as long as I remember. Until I saw 5 pages of high school football coverage in Saturday's Daily Times, I didn't realize how many games in this area are played on Friday night.
I don't pay much attention to football, so please don't think I just landed here from another planet, but I'm curious if you like your high school football on Friday night or Saturday morning?
Personally, I love Saturday morning football. I enjoy a leisurely trek to the field after breakfast and sitting outdoors as the day warms while the game progressess. And, halftime is lunchtime when the hotdogs taste their best.
I've attended a couple Friday night games and I didn't like them. Everything seemed so hectic trying to leave work and rush to the game in rush hour traffic. As each minute passes, it got colder out there. No high school concession stand makes a good hot chocolate or coffee.
I can't imagine how much it cost to light the field for four to five hours during a night game.
I'm probably just old fashioned, but I hope Chester keeps the Saturday morning football game tradition forever. And for the visiting teams who don't want to wake up that early and request that we change game time to 1pm, just set your alarm clocks.
