98-year old grandmother loves playing Nintendo Wii

Seniors at Reba Brown Seniors residence and various communities within Philadelphia love Wii in their lounge just as much as their young kids do

At the Reba Brown Senior Residence of Philadelphia, where the residences are all over 60, something unexpected has been transpiring since they were introduced to Nintendo Wii Console, by Suma Home Care. The residence, most of who have never picked up a video game controller in their life, suddenly can’t put the controller down.

“I’ve never been into video games”, “I thought they were for kids” “But this is fun and exciting” said a 70-year-old residence on the night of their video games event, her and her friend who used to bowl in their younger age took a shine with the Nintendo Wii’s bowling game. “This is fun”, she said.

Today’s seniors are taking over a world formerly ruled by their grandkids – video games! Within the last five years studies have found that adults aged 60-70 years old saw an improvement in multiple cognitive functions by playing strategic video games.

Memory loss, a common complaint among seniors, has shown to improve after playing video games.

Seniors that regularly play Wii Bowling socialize more and stay fit at the same time. While many seniors have struggles picking up a bowling ball or remaining as active as they once were, video games are helping them to stay young while remaining comfortable. Video games are also a great way for seniors to bond with their grandchildren and younger adults in their family.
