Chester’s Kelly Price fiasco

The sponsors of Chester Idol sent me this
flyer on July 5. Did anyone else see this flyer?
I snuck out of town for a week of vacation on July 3 with no intentions of getting on a computer. I did check in via the cell phone and was encouraged to put up a post about Chester's 4th of July celebration.
That was my only post for the week and over 25 comment have indicated that it wasn’t a good week for the City Hall event planners.
Before I begin, I must apologize for not posting the 4th of July calendar of events. However, I didn’t receive it until July 2 after I had checked email for the day. Strangely, in addition to the July 4 and 7 events, the calendar had a June 27th Old School Dance on the page.
Only Michael J. Fox from Back to the Future could have attended that event.
Disclaimer: Since I wasn’t around, all comments from here on are assumed to start with... “Rumor has it!”
It appears that I wasn’t the only one not informed on the activities for July 4th as many comments complain that they didn’t know what to expect at the park. Even if I had posted what I received, all you would have seen is that there would be Entertainment on Main Stage from Noon to 4pm.
Some complained that there were far fewer children activities than in years past, and less than a handful of vendors.
The biggest complaint was the Smurfs movie was being played during the Fireworks.
On July 7th, Kelly Price was the headliner scheduled to perform after some local acts. No one is sure who the local acts were, but I do know that the 1st and 2nd place winners of Chester Idol were looking forward to their debut performances.
I first heard the concert was cancelled due to the murder earlier in the day just blocks away from the park. Then, I heard it was the thunder and lightning showers. Then I heard that there were 3 bolts of lightning and only a few drops of rain and the skies were clearly clearing up.
I heard there were a lot of food vendors, cooking a lot of food, who lost a lot of money, because they had to dump the food they had cooked, and make emergency arrangements for the food they expected to cook. I don’t think they got their vendor fees returned either. Some were from out of town and it’s doubtful they’ll come back to Chester for anything.
I heard there was no police/security escort arranged for Kelly Price to bring her to the park from the hotel. I heard that there was a volunteer expected to bring her in.
I heard Kelly Price was reluctant to come out the hotel at all after hearing how things were progressing.
I heard Kelly Price did come to City Hall to do a meet and greet but she did not perform.
I heard the City had rented out the City Hall community room for a wedding and no one could open Chester High School in their efforts to find a last minute spot to have a concert.
I heard Kelly Price got paid well for her meet and greet and there was plenty of food left over that was set up in her V.I.P. area.
What certainly isn’t a rumor is that we have not heard anything from City Hall in response to what happened on July 7th.
I would have expected an official response by now that would have explained something. At least an apology.
Reputation management is not our strong suit. Continuing to deteriorate our image is our speciality.
Anyone nervous about the Ramble on the Riverfront?

    1. It was a vacation. If you don't come back they treat you like Natalee Holloway.

  2. If anyone from the city happens to give you an explanation maybe you can ask them how much it cost to bring Kelly Price to Chester for a meet and greet. I heard it was $10000. Does the city and us taxpayers get a refund for that?

  5. I was there and it was less then 100 people Kelly Price did perform but she only did 3 songs and I must say that woman can "sang" live...but it was a hot mess and it was the city officials fault lack of COMMUNICATION but I'm sure no one is surprised by that...nothing was handled correctly and that "new girl" the have taking care of the scheduling the artist to come into the city, has no clue what she is doing, I say that because of the amount of cursing she was doing in front of everyone...I heard Ms. Price mention that she wasn't happy with the way things were handled as she was leaving, and during the meet and greet when she was signing autographs and taking pictures the council members and their families were jumping in front of us in line and taking pics, then had the nerve to cut it short if there was more then just you in your party you all had to take a pic together and then they (council and volunteers) were yelling "don't talk to her (KP) take you pic and move on), it was a hot mess....oh and she performed at city hall in the lobby. She looked just as confused as we did when they stopped her from singing. I was there with a few friends and I have to say compared to years past we were not impressed, I doubt she will ever come back to Chester...and YES I'm nervous about the ramble!

It was a pure mess. I didn't attend the 4th's day events because it was just too hot; however, I went to watch the Smurfs' movie which was scheduled to begin at 7:00 I believe. They didn't turn it on until about 8:45. It was in black & white and the fireworks started going off so we could barely hear anything. My daughter and I left and went to sit at the empty lot across from Harrah's to watch their fireworks, which started on time & finished on time (10-10:15). There were quite a few of us parked there and we all say on top of our cars to watch a great fireworks display. Kudos to Harrah's. As far as Kelly Price, I sat up my chair at 6:47, the concert was to begin at 8, even though local talents Crush Records & Young Chief were all posting via Twitter & Instagram that they were scheduled to begin performing at 7:00. When I arrived I saw Crush Records behind the stage waiting to go on. The sound check people were still doing their thing. At approximately 7:14, Portia West came on stage and announced that she had some bad news. Due to the approaching storms, the concert needed to be cancelled. At this point I had witnessed 1 bolt of lightening, farely dark skies, and the wind had picked up. People in the audience were quite disappointed at the announcement. By the time I packed up my things and walked back to my car, there wasn't a dark cloud in sight and I never felt a drop of rain. I went home. I logged into Facebook a couple hours later and saw someone post that the concert had been moved over to City Hall and to please spread the news because there were only about 20 people there because no one had any idea it had been moved there. We were all under the impression that the whole thing had been cancelled because of Ms. West's previous announcement. I asked the person who posted about it if Kelly would be performing. Her response: right now she's doing a meet and greet but they're saying she's going to sing after this. I never went myself and never heard anything else about whether she performed or not. Just my input.....
