Harrah's Chester moving to Philadelphia?

I've been informed that Harrah's is in the process of rebranding itself from Harrah's Chester to Harrah's Philadelphia.

Since we already host the Philadelphia Union, why not just rename the entire city of Chester to Philadelphia.

  1. I don't know if you remember, a few short years ago, Widner used to say they were located in suburban Philadelphia in their radio ads. The current president changed it to Chester. It's a marketing move. As long as we get the tax dollars.......

    1. Murphy Ford is still located in suburban Chester and that's on the opposite end of town from Widener.

Hey Joe, sooner or later everyone will realize that Chester is just one big suburb, huh?

Honestly, I'm surprised Harrah's didn't go with Philadelphia in the first place. But, I never thought they'd change it once Chester had the bragging rights.

It cost a lot of money to do a name change like that. Maybe they're paying for it with the $5 fees they started charging to enter their bars on the weekends.

That lil nuisence fee has kept me out of there lately.

  2. It was always called Harrah's Philadelphia outside of the Pa. The soccor stadium is also in Philadelphia.

  3. When Best Western came to town the first thing they did was disassociate themselves with Chester. They make sure to only mention Chester in the address but Philadelphia several times in the description and even calling out "Harrah's Casino" specifically.

Mayor Linder has some tough tasks to complete for the city: Crime problem, image problem and brand problem. In that order.

  7. If I had a company in Chester I dont think i would want it to be called Chester neather! I would call if Philly to.. Chester has a BAD Rep and having Chester associated with your company is bad for bissness

  8. I was sad to hear the news that Harrah's is rebranding itself but I don't think it has anything to do with Chester itself. It's a marketing strategy. Harrah's is a business and businesses operate to make money. Hotels miles away from the airport brand themselves as an airport hotel. Why? to get more business from those searching for a hotel near the airport. When you travel and ppl ask where you are from and you say Chester, they have no clue where in Pennsylvania that is located, however if you say Philadelphia...there is no more explaining to do. Philadelphia is well known and Chester, PA isn't. It's really pretty simple.

    1. The Union Championship parade will start at PPL to Highland Ave, to 7th steet (oh no, speed bumps) to 9th street, down Ave of the States, reviewing stand will be at City Hall, turn a few corners and continue down 3rd street, left at Flower Street, and party in the PPL parking lot.

      I thought you knew?

  10. Here's my opinion:
Last year Parx Philadelphia Casino which is located in Bucks County was sued in Philadelphia County. The Casino did not want to be subject to a Philadelphia jury. In March the Superior Court ruled the Casino was not subject to Philadelphia Court.

Then a month later Harrah's changes its name. Coincidence? Perhaps but I doubt it.
