Linder meets Obama

Mayors Bing, Coleman, Landrieu, Linder, Swearengin and Wharton in Washington to Discuss Strong Cities, Strong Communities

WASHINGTON, DC – Thursday at 4:40PM, following a meeting at the White House on Strong Cities, Strong Communities (SC2), Mayors Bing(Detroit MI), Coleman(St. Paul MN), Landrieu(New Orleans LA), Linder(Chester PA), Swearengin(Fresno CA) and Wharton(Memphis TN) held a media stakeout outside the West Wing.  Earlier, the President signed an Executive Order establishing the White House Council on SC2.  The Mayors discussed the importance of the SC2 program in the progress of economic development and community revitalization in their cities. The Panel, held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building inside The White House grounds, premiered the first modern era visit from a Chester Mayor.

Hon. Mayor John Linder spoke on the panel of Mayors about continued economic diversification, with a focus on retention, attraction, and creation of businesses and industries with the aid of Chester based institutions/organizations such as CEDA(Chester Economic Development Authority) and Widener University. His initiatives will be facilitated by a reduction in high vacancy rates, opportunities for re-use, crime reduction and prevention, engaging with stakeholders on education reform, integrated healthcare, and support of workforce development. Federal Agencies assisting Chester through the SC2 initiative include The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Small Business Association, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Treasury, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. General Services Administration, and The U.S. Department of Transportation.
Several programs initiated this year, including the SC2 Fellowship Program and Economic Visioning Challenge will continue to distribute funds throughout the SC2 Cities in the next steps towards revitalization. “Strong Cities, Strong Communities enables us to vigorously engage in sustaining progressive change in the City of Chester. These initiatives will lead to a comprehensive twenty-first century model of an entrepreneurial and ‘generative community’, self-sustaining and specifically facilitated by Chester spanning the eastern seaboard”, Chester City’s Mayor surmised.

  2. You should be thanking Mayor Butler as the work and SC2 announcement were all accomplished under his watch! How quickly some forget and are eager to praise those who had very little to do with this!

  4. The Butler Admiminstrations work was what drew Obama's attention. No work in the areas they are here to support has yet been done by the current administration.
Mayor Linder needs to acknowledge that TRUTH.

  5. I think we do thank Mayor Butler, but now we have a new mayor, let's get behind and support him now. We will never forget what Mayor Butler accomplished during his tenure.

  7. Anonymous 7:16, you must think you are so clever throwing out an insult while being grammatically incorrect at the same time. Guess 4 words is about your max before your remaining brain cells give out.
