I submit this post with mixed emotions.
Jameer Nelson
I’m excited to see how Jameer Nelson chooses to give back to the young basketball players in Chester. From what I hear, his AAU sponsored teams are a first class operation. The kids just show up and play ball, all the rest is taken care of. That’s a huge relief when you consider what other kids have to do to finance their travel teams.
Brian Warren
Mayor Linder, I understand that you want to go in a different direction, but firing Brian Warren has just taken you off course.
I can only begin to tell you how incredible Brian Warren is. In this world of employees always trying to ‘get-over’, Brian was an ‘over-getter’. You’d be hard pressed to find a harder working, more dedicated employee who always over achieved.
As Deputy Director of Recreation, he invented so many programs for youths and adults that there was hardly a day on the calendar where one of his activities wasn’t in service.
With the few dollars he had to work with, he maintained summer camps, after school programs, college visits, mentor programs, MLK celebrations, a softball league, soap box derby, chess clubs, concerts, outdoor movies, cancer walks, provided free tickets to nearly every sporting event that came to PPL Park...and that only scratches the surface.
If anyone deserved a car allowance it was Brian. He drove that Dept of Rec van day and night taking kids from one activity to the next.
Brian was a huge asset to The Chester City Blog. Nearly 95 of all press releases concerning city activity came from him.
That’s not to say that I was always happy with how he was sending me stuff. I often had to clean up his submission before I posted them. But I didn’t mind doing it because I knew his strength wasn’t public relations or graphic art. I was just happy to share the information with you no matter how it looked in my inbox.
Hundreds, if not thousands of kids have grown up participating in programs that Brian was directly involved in. By firing him, a lot of kids are instantly disappointed in the Linder administration. It's a political assassination of the youth.
Brain Warren isn’t one to just go sit down. You can still find him coaching the Chester High basketball teams and participating in the youth soccer programs.
This was one of his last emails. He sent it at 9:15am and the city cut off his email account at 10:25am. He got fired at 2:30pm.
Selfishly, I thank Brian Warren for the hundreds of emails he sent The Chester City Blog to inform you of important stuff for your kids.
I will never have another source like him.
So sad! Understand that the new administration wants to head in a new direction. Didn't think the "direction" would be backwards!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stefan I loved working for the City of Chester I THANK Mayor Butler Councilwoman Marrea Councilman Garner and our rec and parks staff for allowing me to provide for our city. I have to say that yes I was the Deputy Director of Recreation an had a great staff. We were a team and I thank them.
ReplyDeleteAs for the new administration you lost a some good people on Friday not just me and that is sad.

Brian, the entire city should be thanking you for your hard work and the remarkable things you were able to do! Can't believe they would do this and it just shows how they have no idea what the hell they are doing! God bless you and your family!
ReplyDeleteStefan, I'd have to concur. Brian Warren did a great job with his limited resources. He brought in soccer and various other oppurtunities for our youth, and me it all inclusive. I never mided volunteering my services because he welcomed all. It's a sad day when we loose good, home grown people.
ReplyDeleteI far as I could tell Brian did a great job,Maybe we don't know the whole story.
ReplyDeleteJoe, thank you very much it was a pleasure working for the city I love. Soccer will still go on and thanks to Chester City United and Chambers Foundation.
ReplyDeleteBrian
Anonymous 5:19am Brian is a republican and Linder said it's politics that's they way it goes. Brian started all pro dads, kings mentoring kings, golf, rugby, tennis, soccer, kickball, jr olympics, soap box derby, mother son dance father daughter dance, battle of the bands college tour, Martin Luther king non violent basketball league, young mens camp, young womans camp, John mobley Kevin jones football camp, job info, scholarship info, he spoke to kids, that's just the off the top of my head. The reason why I know this is because he was a good friend of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I try to keep the posts short so I didn't include all the stuff Brian started and ran.
DeletePolitics or not, you'd be crazy to get rid of a proven producer like Brian. Normal people don't work that hard for so little money and recognition.
...and we thought it wouldn't be just politics as usual with a change at Mayor. I understand that you had to bring your team in but from what I saw Brian didn't work for Mayor Butler, he worked for Chester. Hopefully one day we'll be able to say he was before his time, but that would be contingent on every one else catching up first. Brian, people took notice so don't hang your head. Could we start an online petition to try and show the new administration how we feel about Brian and to show US the power that we have as voters. Still have MLK Day fever.
ReplyDeleteI would sign in a heartbeat. My family has reaped the benefits of his hard work. I'm sure he sacrificed his time with his family so our families could enjoy and participate in all that we have....so to Brian Warren we say Thank you.
DeleteMrs. Blackwell
I thank everyone for there support and seeing the hard work i put into the city I will continue to say thank you to the past admin for hiring me and allowing me to work the city. I will also say that I WA S NOT the only person that did there job and came to work that was fired. The city was dealt a blow on Friday.
ReplyDeleteBrian just remember,
ReplyDeleteWhen one door closes another one always opens. The experience you gained by doing the great things will only prepare you for even greater things.
