Area food banks facing a crisis in food, funding


65 percent more families are seeking food assistance over the last two years. 
A sharply increased demand for food and lack of financial support has created a "perfect storm of indifference and urgency."
The root cause of the food shortfall is the state of the economy, which has left thousands in the area jobless, underemployed, and barely able to pay for housing, utilities, and car payments. Many have run out of unemployment benefits.
