For the first time in the history of the city of Chester, the city has opened a Prison Re Entry Transitional Services and Support Center called “The Chester Re Entry Resource Center of Delaware County. The Center is located at 419 Ave of The States, Suite 407, in the Crozer Building.
The center will provide services, support, and advocacy, for the Re Entry Community (Ex -Offenders) in the city of Chester and Delaware County. Mayor Wendell Butler, Richard Tut Carter, Cory Long, Rev. Richard C. Dalton, and the members of the Chester Prison Re Entry Collaborative have been the individuals responsible for the hard work to get the center open and in place for our citizens of the Re Entry Community.
The mayor’s anti-violence task force has also made a contribution to the success of the efforts of the center. By it’s tireless effort to bring awareness to the city to end violence, through rallies and other activities in targeted neighborhoods, along with Police Chief Darren Alston, they have helped reduce homicides by 40% , and drug arrest by 30%. This all impacts the Re Entry Community and helps to reduce recidivism among that population.
We believe the Chester Re Entry Resource Center of Delaware County answers “The Call” for help as expressed by the Re entry Community and their families. Too long have these individuals suffered from the nightmare of neglect, due to the lack of support, care, and critically needed transitional services to enable them to become law abiding and productive citizens of Chester and Delaware County.
Answering this “Call “ for help by the members of the Chester Prison Re entry Community and their families, will help end violence, reduce recidivism, end the vicious cycle of the re entry community returning to prison, and end the despair of hopelessness, in the hearts of their families.
Chester should be proud of the compassion and care they have as a city to honor and value all of it’s residents, including those returning to society from the Re Entry Community….A community that want a new start in life and make a contribution to the welfare of our great city.
We thank God for this vision, and His help, to make this dream a reality for the city of Chester. “Praise God, from whom all blessings flow”
The Press conference will be at 11:30am, at City Hall in the Community Room on October 11th.
