Minority teacher recruitment successful

...after studying two decades' worth of census and U.S. Department of Education data, Ingersoll and May concluded the teaching force is much more diverse than it was 20 years ago. In many ways, the minority teacher recruitment push has been successful.

Overall, the researchers found, growth in the number of minority teachers was much greater than growth in the number of nonminority teachers - there was a 41 percent growth rate for white teachers, and a 96 percent growth rate for minority teachers.
