Chester, Pa.—Chester Mayor Wendell N. Butler Jr. and City Councilman John A. Linder will have a chance to convince voters of their qualifications to lead Pennsylvania’s first city in a mayoral debate at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in Lathem Hall at Widener University.
The mayoral debate will run from 7 to 8 p.m. followed by a 30-minute city council debate at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The debate will be moderated by KYW-TV (CBS 3) reporter Dray Clark, a Chester native, who will ask the questions. Each candidate will have the opportunity to make a two-minute closing statement. The city council debate will follow a similar format.
Candidates for Chester City Council include: Republican Shepard Garner, Democrat Nafis Nichols, Democrat Elizabeth Williams, and Republican Nolan O. Woodland. They are competing for two seats on City Council.

Could we call this The Debate for the Literate. If you can’t write, bring a scribe if you want a chance to get your question selected.
ReplyDeleteSo, let me get this straight... The debate is from 7-8pm. I’m sure there will be some introductions and rules announced. Will there really be an hour to debate? When will the audience write their quesions?
Or, maybe everyone should get there at 6:30 to write their questions so that they’re ready at 7?
I have one suggestion. Let’s begin with four starter questions -- 1. What is your plan for Crime reduction
2. What is your plan to increase Jobs and new businesses
3. How can you influence the Schools to improve
4. What is your plan to remove blight
This gives folks time to write their questions and have them screened and presented in case there is more time to ask additional questions.
Will the audience have to write new questions for the city council candidates? With 4 candidates, shouldn't they have more time?
Do we really need more sponsors than candidates?
