I think I’m a soccer fan

The night game started at 5pm under brilliant sunshine. Even ships on the river tried to get a glimpse of the game

I was excited to attend Chester’s historic first professional sport playoff game as the Philadelphia Union took on the Houston Dynamos last night.
The atmosphere was electric. The stadium was nearly filled to capacity and, as usual, everyone wore their very best Union team apparel to show off to the ESPN2 national audience.
After Saturday’s nor’easter dumped a full day of rain on the field, it was amazing how perfect the grass looked for ESPN, too.
This was my third game of the season and I have witnessed a win, loss, and tie. Yesterday’s loss came at a bad time since it was a playoff game, but if they score a lot on Thursday in Houston, they can still advance.
As I looked around, I didn’t see one familiar face. It’s hard not to get excited seeing over 18,000 visiting strangers spending money in Chester. That didn’t happen in Brookhaven, Swarthmore, Springfield, Darby, or Media yesterday. The party was in Chester last night.
As I was walking out the stadium, quite a few fans were headed to Harrah’s for the after party at the End Zone.
The Union may have lost the game but the City of Chester won the evening.

  1. Man I wanted to come out to the game but was spending time with my nieces this weekend. I was sorry to hear that they lost. It will be a good thing for the city should they advance further.
