Mayor Butler has done nothing but assure that Chester isn’t in the same situation as Camden, Harrisburg, or Trenton.
These 3 cities are very similar to Chester and all three are in trouble.
Harrisburg is going bankrupt over a trash incinerator that is burning up their money. As much as I hate Chester’s incinerator, it does guarantee us $2 million a year. And Harrisburg’s mayor is reaching out for help from the state but her city council is in total opposition. At least in Chester, the mayor and city council work together.
Trenton is a case where the mayor is drunk with power. His city council wants to do the right thing for the city by seeking state help, but the mayor is fighting them all the way. At least in Chester, the mayor isn’t playing dictator and knows when to pick up the phone for help.
Camden is just tapped out. They can’t generate a dollar no way, no how. They have lost their libraries and police force to budget cuts. At least in Chester, we are constantly adding money to our budget.
If Mayor Butler keeps doing nothing, Chester will be a great place.
