Have you tried to go to delcotimes.com on your smart phone lately. They actually have a new mobile app that loads in no time and looks great.
No more painfully long waits and battery churning expereinces trying to get to a story on their site from the phone.
But wait, there’s more.
They actually have adopted the same technology I’ve been raving about that’s used by the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.
The Daily Times calls it their E-Paper. It is a digital image of all the papers of the Journal Register as they appear in print (of which the Daily Times is one).
I recommend you Click the E-Paper link at the top of Delcotimes.com and give it a free try. I think you’ll like it...unless you prefer to get ink on your hands.
If only they can fix their RSS feed and stop sending me links to the same story 5+ times a day I would care. It's sad that they ignore their current technology and try to jump on the bandwagon (late I might add) that other newspapers have already embraced.
ReplyDeleteAs the primary newspaper of the city, I don't know if I'm biased since I'm a tech savvy person and read their paper but they need to do a better job at using their technology.
If someone from the Times would respond to my calls, emails, tweets or posts I would gladly give them they advice they need to fill in the gaps they have but at last, I am ignored. I think this will be another thing they will foul up on the internet.
You'll have to excuse me for my rant but
it's pretty much the newspaper that I grew up on as is the case for many residences. I expect better.
Yes, I discovered this yesterday & absolutely love it!!! So much more convenient!
ReplyDeleteTo blkbam...thanks for your frequent comments.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Daily Times employee, I am convinced that the exisiting staff is overwhelmed with this digital stuff. They barely have enough staff to put out a paper everyday, and now that same staff is burdened with keeping up with all the digital traffic.
It is their corporate folks, Journal Register, who are pushing Digital First. It's not a bad concept technically, but I question the resources they put behind it.
I will suggest that by contacting a Daily Times staff member directly with a phone call or email is your best chance to get a response.
Thanks. That might be the most straightforward answer I've gotten from anyone related to the paper.
ReplyDeleteI'm just an industry outsider so I've tried all the resources I've been able to round up; column authors, web site contacts, phone numbers, etc. As much as it bugs me, I know how not to turn into that guy with a personal vendetta to change a business.
But I do hope they get the message that their more tech-savvy readers pay attention to how they do things as their latest venture shows.
