After a couple years of bleeding money, is Dan King and his Farmer’s Market is finally calling it quits on Welsh Street?
They've been seen removing equipment from the store, but they remain open as of now.

After a very successful run with their outdoor grills on 9th and Kerlin, they never were able to duplicate that success with their indoor location.
A lot of folks said it was the smoke from the outside grills and the long lines that attracted them to 9th and Kerlin, but the inside location had no appeal to them for a variety of reasons.
You can’t say the Farmer’s Market folk isn't giving it an honest try. They borrowed heavily to renovate their store, they advertised heavily, they gave away water during violence marches, and they even got a street direction changed to try to encourage folks to park in the lot behind their building.
Maybe if they had attended Entrepreneur Works before they got started they would have found better ways to find success at their indoor farmer’s market.
I think this is a simple case of a business without a market. No pun intended. I just don't think the people in the city understand what a Farmer's Market is all about that doesn't try to sell you bootleg movies and a knock off purse.
ReplyDeleteEducating the community on choosing better foods isn't something that one business do in a town full of fast food places open until 4 am...
Well...
ReplyDeleteEducation on better food choises is an issue. I'm not sure the Farmers Market had their finger on the pulse of what the community wanted.
I won't bash them here, but their cooked foods left a lot to be desired.
There was nothing special about their fruits, vegatables and cold cuts. It was the same stuff you can't get from the supermarket.
Their baked good were not appealing to this community.
Their big attraction was their grilled chicken. They couldn't duplicate that formula with an indoor slow cooker.
Ok then, I will bash them. The cooked food was nasty!!! Maybe they should try going back to 9th & Kerlin.
ReplyDeleteYes I tried on two occasions and both occasions were a thumbs down. The bbq ribs and chicken did not taste like it when they were outdoors and how about I didn't know it was the same folks until now?!?! I tried the collard greens....no taste at all they were just boiled. YUCK...
ReplyDeleteThe concept of a Farmers Market in Chester is great. But when it comes to cooked food, they should have had one of us running that part of the business. i really believe they think they were serving good food.
