DA Mike Green gives Cheyney University marijuana growing equipment

At first glance, I couldn’t believe it either. But, after I stopped speed reading and actually saw what was going on, I relaxed.
District Attorney G. Michael Green held a press conference today to announce that he is donating to Cheyney’s Aquaculture Research and Education Center the equipment they seized that was used to grow weed in the old drug store on 24th Street in Chester.
(Click HERE if you forgot that story from the Spring.)
Cheyney offers more than 30 disciplines including natural and applied sciences. They have joined with with The Partnership CDC and spearheaded The Urban Food Lab which is a greenhouse used for the development of prototypes and methods that will eventually be implemented into a large-scale indoor farming operation. It is also a training ground for students giving them the opportunity to bring together the studies of science, math, technology and engineering for a unique educational experience.
That equipment formally used to support an illegal drug operation will now be used to enhance a vital green initiative that will not only support the community but will also enable college students studying in Delaware County to contribute to the community in a positive way and learn a developing area of science.
I applaud the DA for his creative thinking for the benefit of enhancing studies at Cheyney.
He could have taken this equipment anywhere, but he choose Cheyney.
