The Mayor’s race is getting all the attention but the city council race makes for great drama, too.
I think these are the most likely scenarios of this election’s outcome.
Scenario 1: Everything stays the same
Mayor Butler wins. Shep Garner and Nolan Woodland take the council seats.
Scenario 2: A mini shift
Mayor Butler wins. Either Garner or Woodland are defeated. That creates 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans running the city.
Scenario 3: A big shift
Mayor Butler wins. Both Garner and Woodland are defeated. That creates an all Democratic city council.
Scenario 4: A Major About Face
Councilman Linder becomes mayor. Either Garner or Woodland are defeated. Democrats 4 - Republicans 1
Scenario 5: An Ultimate About Face
Councilman Linder becomes mayor. Both Garner and Woodland are defeated. Democrats run the city for at least 2 years.
In recent history, the mayor and council have been in virtual agreement in their voting of resolutions helping the city run relatively smoothly.
Considering the scenarios, things could change in an instant. If we’re not careful, we could be the next Harrisburg where mayor and council are at constant odds with each other.
Just something to consider.
