All Politics Is Local

The former U.S. Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill came up with the phrase All Politics Is Local.
His point was that a politician must appeal to the simple, mundane and everyday concerns of those who elect them into office. Those personal issues that affect voters the most, rather than big and difficult to understand ideas, are often what people care most about, according to this principle.
The principle predicts that most people will not vote for local politicians simply as a means to sent a message regarding politics and politicians outside of their candidate’s area of influence. It’s assumed that most voters are focused on seeing their local issues resolved.
So, you will hear me use this phrase quite a bit as I share my Chester Election 2011 ideas on this blog leading up to November 8th.
