Delco Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS memorial 9-11 Remembrance


Media- Delaware County District Attorney G. Michael Green will host the Delaware County Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS Memorial Remembrance on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Tree Park, Route 252 and Rose Tree Road, Media, Pennsylvania at the sites of the Law Enforcement and Fallen Firefighter and EMS Memorials.  Joining District Attorney Green will be members of Delaware County Council including: Chairman Jack Whelan, Christine Fizzano Cannon, Tom McGarrigle, Andy Lewis and Mario Civera.  
Delaware County proudly honors its first responders on September 11th of each year with the laying of wreaths at the Law Enforcement Memorial, the Fallen Firefighters and EMS Memorial and victims of September 11, 2011 Memorial at Rose Tree Park.  On this the tenth anniversary of the horrific attacks on September 11, 2001, Delaware County will once again gather in song and prayer to pay tribute to our fallen first responders.  Delaware County will also give thanks to those who continue to service our community.  The County will also pay tribute to the men and women who serve our country in the military, and in particular, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and security during the past 10 years.
During the Memorial Remembrance, District Attorney Green will recognize Corporal Christopher “Chris” Milito, 40 of Upper Providence, a police officer for the Delaware River Port Authority Police, who died on January 16, 2010 as a result of injuries sustained when he was struck by a car while investigating an accident on the Walt Whitman Bride.  Corporal Milito’s name was added to the Law Enforcement Memorial this year.
Delaware County Sheriff Joseph F. McGinn, a US Army veteran who served in Vietnam, will read the names of the fallen servicemen from Delaware County who have given their lives in service to our Nation since September 11, 2001:  US Army Lieutenant Colonel Mark Phelan, who died on October 13, 2004; US Army Specialist Michael J. Smith, who died January 11, 2005; US Marine Corps Sergeant James Fordyce, who died February 17, 2006; US Army Staff Sergeant Joseph M. Make, who died October 14, 2006; and US Army Private First Class Christopher Warren Lotter, who died December 31, 2008.
State Representative Nicholas Miccarelli, a member of the Army National Guard who served in Iraq, is the featured speaker for the event.  Representative Miccarelli will offer his reflections on this 10th Anniversary.  Council Chairperson Jack Whelan and Bob McMahon, a founder of the PA Veterans Museum, will offer remarks on the meaning of service.  Phillip E. Heron, Editor of the Delaware County Daily Times, will offer remarks on the sacrifice of those who serve our county at home and abroad in the military.
 Family members of fallen soldiers and representatives of Blue Star Mothers of Delaware County and Gold Star Mothers of Delaware are expected to attend.  
This event is open to the public and will proceed rain or shine.  Handicap parking and access is available.
