The Chester Crowd -- or lack thereof |
When did things change...and so drastically?
Football, the sport that typically exemplifies school spirit, has become a passionless event for the Chester High School family.
Remember when the first home game, homecoming, and Thanksgiving were jammed packed?
I’ll forgive Thanksgiving since our cross town rival, Saint James, is no longer around. But yesterday’s opening day was dismal.
I’m not sure if it was all the rain we’ve recently received or the staff cuts in the school district, but the field wasn’t looking too good, either. The lines weren’t even straight in some places. (Bring back Roger Bost -- he kept the field looking world class).
There were a couple high notes. The DJ now has a cart for his equipment. The dance team (cheerleaders) looked great. And, the team played hard for a great win.
It was so quiet at the ‘A’ Field that there were times that you could hear them encouraging each other in the huddle. I love that kinda passion in young folks.
Go check out a home game this year. The team would love your support.
