Chester Upland gets a few million from the State

The state budget deal announced by the legislature on Monday put an extra $9.6 million into the Basic Education Fund allocation for Chester Upland. A further million was added through restoring part of the city's Accountability Block Grant.

Despite Monday's funding boost, the 7,280-student district, which depends on state money for more than two-thirds of its budget, still stands to lose about 45 percent of its state allocation, about $8.5 million.

The district is also losing about $11 million in onetime federal grants and stimulus money.
(State Senator) Pileggi said Tuesday night that (Govenor) Corbett's original budget proposal would have cut Chester Upland's total budget 20 percent. "I didn't think that was fair," he said. "We brought it down to something more manageable."

I told you the Senator would come through.

  1. Okay, here's the deal. A great percentage of funds generally allocated to the Chester-Upland School District has rightfully so, followed former district students to the Charter Schools in the city.
Sooooo...., in October, when all 'head' counting is in, all attendance is in on who's attending what school, and the monies have been appropriately appropriated for each site ( schools- charter or public), notice how the Charter Schools systematically start 'booting' students out the door ( while still holding on to the per student funding) and 'dump' that child into the 'open-door' public schools???
Oh you weren't aware of that process? Charter Schools are very, very, selective. However, that selection usually does not begin until, as stated above, the per student monies have been received.
Also, the promise of 'sound' classroom presentations is better when you have hand picked your student body;right?
Now mark my word, it happens Every year!!
See how many Charter School students are dis-enrolled by the end of the year
    (October - December).
Watch the influx of transfers into our public schools!!
Oh I forgot, around standardized assessment time also!!
And last but not least, check out those out dated Charter School IEP's!!
