  1. They have an article in the Daily Times and on the website about the recent burglaries in the Fairgrounds section of Chester Township. While I realize this is not considered within Chester city's boundaries, the newly constructed homes they are targeting toward these new-homebuyers are cheap and poorly constructed, and extremely similar to the homes in the Fairgrounds. Residents were said to have had their door kicked off the frame after just two tries by the burglars.

Aside from the horrible crime, failing school system, homebuyers looking to stay in Chester have MORE issues. Buy an older home, worry about infestation (been there as a renter). Buy an older home that has been remodeled, worry about outrageous rent prices, too much to have to pay in Chester. Buy a newly constructed home, worry about people coming and going as they please, with your valuables in hand. No thanks. My next move will be out of the city.

  2. Mrs. Richardson, I am a possible new homebuyer.

I am considering buying an old home in Chester city because I, too, have watched how they are building the new homes near the old William penn high school and am astonished that they even pass permit inspection. I hope a strong wind does not come along because those homes will not survive. I actually feel bad for the buyers there.

But I am curious to know what type of infestation the older home in Chester have? Is it termites, mosquitoes, ants, or what?

    Thanks,

    Melody

  3. Melody, ants can get bad and the ROACHES! You really have to inspect with these roaches because some say that they have had the home "renovated" or have had someone come out to do the termination. However, if it is a row/attached home, the neighbors could possibly have some critters. If they have them, then no matter what, you will continue to have the problem. (Been there as a renter!) My grandmother has owned her home for the last 40+ years and not one roach. You have to do your homework, especially on the neighbors.

Also, waterbugs, thousand-legs (creepy bugs!), spiders - these can't be avoided, especially the water bugs and spiders. Just get the most potent bug-killing stuff (not Raid spray, it should come in a gel-like form you can squeeze out) you can find and put some along the wall-to-floor boundaries, inside and outside. Do it regularly. The ants still manage to get in my little place, so keep at it. Unfortunately, with roaches, you won't be able to tell until you see one. And one = one thousand more.

  4. Are you guys kidding me? Its very sad when the city tries to do things and all the comments are negative. If there were not a homebuyers fair you would complain, now that they have the fair your complaining about the construction of the homes. Sad to say but homes built in 2011 are all in danger of a bad storm not just the ones in Chester. We are our own worse enemy crabs in a barrell. SMH

  6. Thanks, Mrs. Richardson and anonymous 7:31.

I will keep that in mind.

SMH, I thought your comment was kinda funny because in the end, you actually agreed that newer homes are unsafe.

And, I didn't see anyone complaining about the town making an effort to host a homebuyers.

  8. It was negative Anonymous, but you didn't get the entire picture. I encourage the city's efforts to retain residents - I should've made that clear. What I feel negative about - the homes that people would be moving into. As I said, if the older homes were taken care of, buying wouldn't be a problem. BUT! Most homes have not been taken care of. And the ones that are marketed when posting ads about the fair are the newer ones which are trash! Sorry, but it's true. Just do as much research as possible when buying and you'll be fine.

PS - I never said ONLY the homes built here are trash. Calm down.
