Chester, PA -- With a full schedule of activities and concerts planned by the City’s Recreation Department starting this month, Chester’s young people have plenty to do this summer. Just released today, the City’s 2011 Summer Recreation Calendar is now available and features a wide variety of activities and programs that are free and open to the public.
Bringing quality entertainment to Chester residents, the Recreation Department is hosting a series of concerts throughout the summer, including the Back to School Concert and the Summer Jazz Concert series, held every Sunday evening during the month of August. Residents are encouraged to come out for the weekend long 4th of July Celebration kicking-off in Chester Park on Thursday, June 30 with an Old School Hip Hop Concert featuring local talent and Doug E. Fresh.
For the first time ever, the City will be holding “Family Nights” starting July through the month of August with ice skating, roller skating, bowling and outdoor movie nights. The Recreation Department also offers a variety of sports leagues and lessons, including golf, soccer, tennis, basketball and baseball. Providing programs for all ages, the department also hosts adult basketball and softball leagues, and activities such as aerobics, Zumba, boot camp workouts, bingo and line dancing. The Recreation Department also hosts events specifically geared for young people, including the annual Soap Box Derby on August 20, Teen Karaoke Night on August 19, and a variety of mentoring programs and camps throughout the summer.
