Support Pennsylvania Career Link

Federal funding for workforce development is facing potentially devastating cuts in the upcoming budget.  President Obama's budget proposes an 8% reduction in workforce development funds, while the House majority has proposed a 100% reduction in funding for workforce development.

Workforce development funding is critical in supporting job seekers with training opportunities and placement, including  CareerLink Support Services, and Individual Training Accounts for education, while also providing employers with valuable hiring and retention services.

These services are critical in these economic times while 8.5% of the population in Pennsylvania is currently unemployed, and 26% of the individuals who have lost their jobs have remained unemployed for a year or more. The State of Pennsylvania is short at least 300,000 jobs that it would take to reach full employment.

Workforce development funding provides pivotal services for the unemployed in Pennsylvania. Currently 79,005 employers post jobs with CareerLink and around 115,159 Pennsylvania citizens use Workforce development services.

Now more than ever the unemployed of Pennsylvania need Workforce Development as a resource for finding employment as well as training for employment in this economy.

To cut this funding would be to cut a service meant to alleviate the suffering of many Pennsylvanians as well as a service that means to increase Pennsylvania's job growth.

Please take a moment to call your legislators or send them the attached letter in an e-mail or via fax (preferably on letterhead) urging them to support continued workforce development funding.

The House will conclude their budget debate in only a couple of days, so it is essential that this information is shared with your Representative TODAY.  You can find contact information for legislators below.

  1. Women are much more likely than men to have gaps in their resume because it is not uncommon for women to take time off from work to care for a sick or aging relative, to have children, or to go through periods of under-employment or unemployment for various other reasons. Sadly, however, hiring managers will see this “resume gap” as a red flag and will want to know why you took time off from work. Learn more:
