The Planned Demise of the Black Farmer by the U.S. Government

Many of us who trace our family history don’t have to go far to find a family connection to farms.
My father introduced me to farming as a child, as his father owned farms in south Jersey, and we took summer vacations in Virginia where our family owned a lot of farm land.
I picked many-a-basket of fruit and vegetables and can really appreciate the hard work that goes into growing food.
I followed closely the fiasco involving the class action suit black farmers recently won against the Department of Agriculture, and the travesty the government imposed on the black farmers by holding up their settlement payments for so long. If President Obama wasn’t in office, I wonder if they’d ever get paid. (Click HERE for more on the black farmer suit)
Corporations have taken over the family farms, as the documentary Food, INC. so expertly depicts.
I’ve provided a link to this Final Call article because it’s the most comprehensive account of the extra burden on black farm families by the corporate take over of family farms.  Once you get beyond the rhetoric in the first couple paragraphs, there is great information in this article.
