When did Kayne West call President Bush a racist?

I happened to be watching the telethon where Mr. West spoke his mind about President Bush's delayed response to hurricane Katrina.

Mr. West has recently apologized and confessed that he was influenced by a-a-a-a-a-alcohol after President Bush wrote how those comments affected him.

I went to YouTube to re-watch Mr. West's statement to see if I missed something. What he said was, "George Bush doesn't like black people." He didn't say that George Bush was racist.

Obviously, some people, including President Bush, believe Mr. West called him a racist. I don't think so.

If I say, 'I doesn't date white women', no matter how true that statement may be, I am not saying I hate white women, or I hate white people in general. But, I'm sure, there is someone out there who will consider it racist.

Consequently, some white folks may be happy to hear those words, and certainly many black women would cheer, just as a lot of folks appreciated what Mr. West said that night.

Why didn't President Bush respond five years ago? He could have easily dismissed Mr. West's statement by reminding us how his cabinet included many black people in very important positions. He didn't have to select Ms. Rice or Mr. Powell, or any of the many other people of color who helped run the country with him. He could have killed all this noise a long time ago.

Would things be different if Mr. West had said, "George Bush is a racist" ? Of course.

I believe Kanye West would have been wiped off the face of radio immediately if he said that.

Mr West has said some stupid things, but so has President Bush. Yet, I wish Mr. West had followed the teleprompter that night.

I am suspect why this issue is coming up now. There are some political implications here.

What do you think?

  1. I think you are making a lot of sense today. Honestly, I don't think anyone cares who you date, black or white. As long as you remain true to yourself that's all that matters. And that is not being racist at all. We all have preferences and that doesn't mean we are racist because of it.

If you have seen the Katrina catastrophe, you would say George Bush doesn't like Black people either. Maybe we all should have been under the influence of a-a-a-a-a-alcohol that night because George Bush did seem racist to me. Just because you have Black people working for you doesn't mean, you're not racist. You always need a couple tokens around to look legit.

The reason this issue and other issues are coming out again now is because George Bush's book is out and he is making the rounds promoting his book. He should be on the talk/news shows this week. Watch them and tell me what you think.

  2. You don't think people care about interracial dating? I'm sure you're kidding. Hopefully, you are speaking only for yourself and how you feel others should behave.

Could Barack be president if Michelle was a white First Lady? Doubtful. Not in this post racial America. LOL

We shouldn't allow Mr. West's comments to get twisted despite what he may have meant.

President Bush should be responding to want was said, not what was implied.

And to call Condi and Colin tokins grossly discredits their intelligence, experience, and contributions. Would you consider every white in Obama's cabinet a tokin?

Sorry, but I could give a hoot about a George Bush book and will turn the channel if he's on my TV trying to push it.

If the Kanye issue is the first leak from the book, who should care about the rest?

He could have released this book at any time. There is a political strategy for releasing it now.

  3. Good attempt at a comeback. I guess you think you told me, although you made some good points. Yes, some people care about interracial dating. Yes, I like it dark but that doesn't mean I am prejudice because of my preferences. Yes and other people feel the same as I do. I'm not out here by myself with that opinion. So I'm not kidding and I'm not speaking only for myself.

Obama is biracial; he would have been okay with a White Michelle. He is not all Black so he could pull it off or gotten away with being with a White woman. He was raised by one, his mother. LoL

Yes, okay we should respond to what West actually said not what he actually meant and how everybody feels.

Condi and Colin? That's a disrespectful reference in itself. Not discrediting their intelligence or contribution but you have to call a spade a spade no matter who you are, you are always going to be Black to any White man no matter what your shade or level of intelligence.

And you call yourself a news man. You should care a hoot about what George Bush is saying in his memoirs. How else are you going to learn anything other than what he said about West or is that just your focus? He will also be talking about his decision to pardon Lewis "Scooter" Libby, his drinking, water board, and so on. There is no political strategy. You are reaching. This is just George Bush being George Bush. But if you think the Tea Party or the Republicans will try to use the issue in someway, I agree that they might. Honestly, they would never miss an opportunity for a dig on the Obama administration.

  4. Dear Anonymous. I'm not trying to TELL YOU anything. I'm simply clarifying my point which is 1. Race matters to others in relationships in America, unfortunately. 2. I wouldn't read a Kanye West or George Bush book even if they were best sellers, and 3) If I needed a Russian scholar or an Army general, Condi and Colin would be on the top of my list?

  5. Okay!!! Points well taken.

    1. I do remember when John Mayer said he couldn't help if his private parts were discriminating. So I guess some people can't or won't distinguish preference from discrimination.

    2. I wouldn't read either book.

    3. And thank God I don't need a Russian scholar but I wouldn't mind an army general. You never know when you might need one of those. Powell will do just fine.
