High quality, grain fed meat for sale

Plan now to buy a high quality, grain-fed pork or lamb at the annual Delaware County 4-H Summer Fair Livestock Auction at 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon, August 14 at the 4-H Farm and Educational Center in Newtown Square.  Suburban families are encouraged to participate in the auction. 4-H Volunteers will arrange for your animal to be transported to the USDA licensed butcher. Buyers complete a “cutting order” specifying the cuts and packaging for their meat, then pick up the frozen, packaged meat from the butcher later in the month.  (Butchering, packaging and freezing is additional:  $75 per lamb; $140 per hog; additional charge if the hog is over 300 pounds). To purchase an animal at the auction, buyers must pre-register just before the sale; you will be issued a buyer number upon providing proper identification.
This livestock auction is a wonderful opportunity for the public to purchase hand-raised pork or lamb and to support Delaware County 4-H.  For those unable to attend, lambs may be purchased for $249.00 and hogs for $360.00 until August 4.  For more information or to purchase in advance of the Fair, please call the 4-H Office at 610- 690-2655 or visit http://delaware.extension.psu.edu/4-H/summerfair.html.
4-H members at the 4-H Farm and Educational Center in Newtown Square raise the market animals. The 4-H Livestock Projects give suburban children the opportunity to have hands on experience at a working farm. By cooperatively raising sheep and pigs, members learn what it takes to produce the meat they see for sale in supermarkets.  At the culmination of the market animal project, members offer hogs and sheep for sale to people who are interested in putting high quality, grain fed meat in their freezer.
Penn State is an affirmative action, equal opportunity university, and all residents of Delaware County, regardless of race, color, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability, are encouraged to attend.   If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact a staff member at 610-690-2655 in advance of your participation.
