Promoting Unity in Our Community for a Better Chester

Organized by: Community Citizens of Chester and Mayor's Anti-Violence Initiative

After being contacted by Jamilah Shareef, a lifelong Chester resident, we decided to coordinate efforts to create an Anti-Violence March and Rally. According to Ms. Shareef, many of the residents in the City of Chester are saying ,"Enough is Enough." The residents are referring to the murder of Larry Carter which came only a few weeks after the murder of Thomas Green in the Ruth L. Bennett Homes. With that in mind, Chester residents has decided to come together as a community with the support of everyday citizens ,and Chester Mayor Wendell N. Butler Jr. to host a March and Rally against senseless violence.

What Does the March & Rally Accomplish?

The march brings awareness to the community and raises hope for the residents that are against the violence acts that plague our community. It gives our children a chance to see that there are other alternatives to violence. It also serves as a process of grieving for those who believe that their love ones, friends, or family members senseless murder may have gone unnoticed.

By hosting this March and Rally, we hope to promote togetherness and unity in the community. Residents will receive literature and their will be guest speakers to empower them to take back their community.

There will be a planning meeting on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 5:00p.m. at Chester City Hall inside the Resource Computer Room. Mayor Butler will be in attendance and asking for your support to reduce the violence. Also, we will coordinate the details of the March and Rally scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2010. Please confirm your attendance by calling 610-447-7784 or by email clong@chestercity.com. Thanks for your support and remember, "What Chester Makes, Makes Chester". You have a voice, let it be heard!
