Chester's 'Overtown' Street Festival July 20

The Chester Economic Development Authority (CEDA), in conjunction with the City of Chester, the Chester Business Association (CBA), Chester Arts Alive, the Philadelphia Union, Harrah’s, Entrepreneur Works, the Pennsylvania Resources Council, and Crozer Keystone, is organizing the Overtown Street Festival.

This event will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in Chester’s Central Business District, known as Overtown, between Welsh and Ave. of the States.

The Street Festival will consist of music, art and crafts, vendors, children’s activities and an historical walking tour of the downtown area.  The Street Festival is part of the ongoing revitalization efforts in downtown Chester and focuses on Chester’s Central Business District as a destination for shopping and entertainment.

With the Chester Transit Center as an anchor for the City and for this event, the Philadelphia Union is hoping to attract public transit users as well as those Philadelphia Union fans who arrive at the Chester Transportation Center by train and take a shuttle to the stadium for their evening game. Music will be ongoing from 11:00 AM with a special presentation by “Minas” (Latin Jazz group) at 2:00 PM.

The Overtown Revitalization Committee is a “grass roots” organization made of downtown property and business owners.  Their activities promote investment in downtown Chester and are part of the “Main St’ approach.  The City is seeking Main St. designation from the Commonwealth for the Overtown area.

Vendors are still being accepted.
