The so-called food desert of Chester has a monsoon of food choices in its forecast.
By the end of this year, Philabundance will open Fair & Square on the far west side. Next year, Bottom Dollar will open near Widener. And, if all goes well, Dollar General Market expects to land in Wellington Ridge near I-95 and Highland Ave. We already have the Sam and Sam market right across the street from Chester in Upland, so the total number of small food markets could potentially number four before long.
Is this too great of a food downpour at one time? Will the flood of choice drown out one or more of these stores? Will Chester folks stick to their fair weather favorite markets in Aston and Brookhaven?
