Chester community leader wins discrimination case

When I started the Chester Spotlight paper in 2006, one of the first issues featured Mothers In Charge, headed by Nicole Cogdell. Since that time I’ve watched her lead many grassroots efforts within the Chester community.

Over the years, we’ve candidly spoke of her challenges as a mother, an organizer, and the discrimination case.

So many of us have had our issues in the workplace which we consider discriminatory but unless the offense overwhelmingly crosses the line, it’s almost impossible to do anything about it.

To effectively challenge a workplace discrimination issue takes a lot of time, effort, money, evidence, cooperation, and a huge emotional toll.

More times than not, a discrimination case is more effective at making a case than receiving a settlement.

Congratulations to Ms. Cogdell for doing both. It's a win for all of us.
