Four students from Chester have been awarded $1,000 college scholarships by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County.
The Chester Branch of the NAACP nominated the students as part of the church’s annual scholarship program. Every year since 2005, the Media-area church has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a promising young person from neighboring Chester, and has renewed that grant yearly as long as the recipient has continued undergraduate college education.
The recipients are: Christina Delva, a junior at Widener University who intends to study law; Daland Dixon, a Cheyney University freshman who plans to go into molecular biology; Bryanna King, attending Kaplan University/Technical School to become a medical assistant with the goal of becoming a registered nurse; and Nasir Young, a Howard University sophomore majoring in history and minoring in education.
Two past recipients are in graduate school.
The church is proud of this program, what it brings to these young people, and how it has fostered a closer relationship with the Chester Branch of the NAACP and other people in that city.
The church is located at 145 W. Rose Tree Road, two blocks west of Route 252. For more information, go to uucdc.org, or www.facebook.com/UUCDC, or call 610-566-4853.
Congrats to the students. I hope that money serves them well in their educational futures.
