There were NO winners in the Black Enterprise 3 year Subscription essay contest.
Why?
Because NO ONE SUBMITTED AN ESSAY!
Why were there no entries?
- No one knows a 10th grader.
- 10th graders don’t read magazines.
- 10th graders don’t read.
- 10th graders don’t write essays.
- Black businesses are not important.
- Nobody cares.
- Organizations supporting literacy and small business weren't involved.
Can you think of more reasons why no one applied?
I guess our benefactor will find 5 future business leaders somewhere else.
It's a sad day when our children will not take the time to write an essay and even more sad that more parents didn't promote this opportunity to their children. Back in the day we would have taken advantage of this with a quickness because how many of us had subscriptions coming to the house? We used to read any and everything we could get our hands on. Now our children are reading King and Rap this Rap that magazines. Hmmm. No wonder our children aren't graduating and doing bigger and better as a whole. Yes there are exceptional children of color doing big things, but there should be more of them.

DeleteI'm going to check to see if the offer can be extended. If so, I will find 5 interested 10th graders, myself. Not a problem.
As for young readers, I know the girls are reading. They like the urban dramas, but at least they're reading.
I, second the above comment, at least the are reading something, well said!
