Hon. Mayor John Linder and City Council will present a sizeable contribution to the J. Lewis Crozer Library on behalf of the City of Chester, during the March 14th public City Council Meeting.
“Literacy is the cornerstone of mental, physical, and social health and wellness of our citizens”, Mayor Linder expressed during a recent statement to advocates for literacy.
Incorporated a little over a century following its inception, J. Lewis Crozer Library is the third oldest in the State of Pennsylvania.
“The funds provided by the City of Chester allow the J. Lewis Crozer Library to operate without the reduction in hours or staff, other libraries are facing”, explained Director LaTanya Burno.
In addition to providing traditional library services, Crozer provides several seminars focused on health and wellness of the family, such as Zumba, Craft-Making, and Parent/Infant Workshops, strengthening the community relationship with a precious resource.
In the current economic climate, the library also facilitates the process of getting citizens back to work through several work readiness workshops.
“The number of citizens using our computers is up, circulation is up, and when Delaware County Community College needed a space for its GED Program, we were able to provide it.”
Those classes begin the end of this month at the library.
This spring, you may also see the Mayor reading to young students as part of Brothers Of Concern’s Real Men Really Read Campaign in conjunction with The Center For Literacy and J. Lewis Crozer Library.
