Chester OKs $100,000 for Philabundance food center

City council unanimously voted to provide funding for a proposed Philabundance food center Wednesday morning.

Council voted, 5-0, to allocate $100,000 in Community Block Development Grant funds to help the nonprofit Philabundance purchase the building needed to house the food center, a hybrid of a pantry and low-cost grocery store.

Philabundance now has to raise the additional $3,900,000 and the project will commence. Do the math -- Chester's $100,000 is tiny in the scheme of things. If more development was going on in Chester, more development grants would be awarded.
