I know y’all don’t use Twitter, but sooner or later you’ll catch on.
Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, New Jersey, is a Twitter fan. Everyday, he is communicating with his constituents (and other followers like me) about his comings-and-goings as mayor.
His Tweets made national news during the recent snow storm as he directed some city services according to real time citizen conversations over Twitter.
A few months back, a person made a comment on this blog that Chester City government should embrace Facebook in an attempt to be more responsive to citizen concerns. The school board meeting’s 3-minute rule wouldn’t be an issue if folks could communicate on a regular basis with the board. We all know that phone calls don’t cut it, in person visits are time consuming especially if you work, and does anyone know their reps email addresses?
I’d admit that Cory Booker is way ahead of the curve with his constituent outreach, but I’m sure former DC mayor, Adrian Fenty, wishes the folks knew what he was doing for them while he hid in his office for 4 years.
