Basketball Clinics Benefiting Charity on MLK, Jr. Day

MEDIA, PA -- There will be five area basketball clinics held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day benefiting the homeless shelters of Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC).  The 10th Annual Hoops from the Heart basketball clinics will occur on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Cabrini College, Haverford College, Neumann University, Widener University and Springfield High School.  All proceeds from the events will be donated to CAADC, a non-profit organization which provides services to low-income Delaware County residents striving for self-sufficiency.  The clinics have raised over $40,000 for Community Action Agency since they began in 2002.  Players will be grouped by age and ability and will receive instruction in all aspects of fundamental basketball including passing, shooting, defense, ball handling, rebounding and team play.  Space is limited so players are encouraged to enroll early. 
Cabrini College Athletics and the Radnor Township Parks and Recreation Department will host the basketball clinic in the college’s Dixon Center Nerney Fieldhouse. It is open to boys and girls in grades one through eight and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop-off and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Cabrini College Women’s Basketball Coach Kate Pearson and Men’s Coach Marcus Kahn will direct the clinic along with members of the Cavaliers men’s and women’s hoop teams. Cost for the clinic is $30 per player which includes a t-shirt. Call (610) 688-5600 for more information. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate as well.

Haverford College Athletics and the Haverford Township Recreation Department will host its basketball clinic at the Haverford College’s Gardner Integrated Athletic Center. It is open to boys and girls in grades one through eight and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop-off and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Haverford College Women’s Basketball Coach Bobbi Morgan and Men’s Coach Mike Mucci will direct the clinic along with members of the men’s and women’s hoop teams. Cost for the clinic is $30 per player which includes a t-shirt. Call (610) 446-9397 for more information. Participants are asked to bring two non-perishable canned food items to donate as well.

Neumann University Athletics will host its basketball clinic at the Neumann University’s new Center for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development (CSSCD). It is open to boys and girls in grades one through eight and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop-off and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. The clinic will be directed by the Neumann Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches and Team members. Cost for the clinic is $30 per player which includes a t-shirt. Call (484) 840-4711 for more information. Participants are asked to bring one non-perishable food item to donate as well.

Widener University Athletics will host its basketball clinic at the Widener University Schwartz Athletic Center. It is open to boys and girls in grades one through eight and will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop-off and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. The clinic will be directed by the Widener University Men’s Basketball Coach, Christopher Carideo, Women’s Basketball Coach, Alisa DiBonaventura, and Team members. Cost for the clinic is $20 per player which includes a t-shirt. Call (610) 499-4476 for more information. Participants are asked to bring one non-perishable food item to donate as well.


Springfield High School Athletics will host its basketball clinic at Springfield High School. The clinic is open to boys and girls in grades one through six and will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Drop-off and check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. Springfield High School Girls’ Basketball Coach Kimberly Smith and the girl’s basketball team will direct the clinic. Cost for the clinic is $20 per player and includes a free t-shirt. Call (610) 938-6182 for more information. Participants are asked to bring one non-perishable food item to donate as well.
